Hop on over to the Botanic Garden, for their annual Hop Festival!

This event is in in fourth year – and it’s always popular (or should that be hop-ular?).

The weekend celebrates the harvesting of the hops in the Garden in early September. You can see the volunteers in action in the picture above. After the hops have been carefully picked by hand, they’re dried and brewed into VBG’s own beers – Tropic Ale and Botanic Ale.

Over the weekend, you’ll get a chance to sample the beers and browse at a home produce market, while local bands keep you entertained. Children will be kept busy with face painting, art competitions, outdoor play equipment and other fun stuff.

Also this year, VBG is rolling out the Sponsor a Barrel scheme. Interested businesses, organisations, groups and teams are invited to sponsor a barrel for £100. In return the sponsor will receive tokens to sample the contents of their barrel, while the rest will be sold off to benefit local charities.
