YES, IT’S COMPETITION TIME
Tell us about your dream B&B and win a night at the dreamy Windsor Carlton!
Hands up who wants to win a night at the swanky Windsor-Carlton overlooking Ventnor Bay? We do! We want their legendary breakfast, sea views and the four-poster bed in Room Caroline (pictured here). But unfortunately ‘the rules’ of our new competition mean that we can’t enter. You can… so long as you complete the little form below and press ‘ENTER NOW’ by the end of September 2013.
All you need to do is tell us about your dream B&B experience. This could be real or imaginary. Did it involve finding posh freebies in the bathroom? Or champagne on tap? Or does an After Eight on the pillow make all your dreams come true?
Tell us about your dream experience below – and we’ll put the best entries on this website. Aim for 100 words, max, but to be honest, we’re not really counting.
Here are a few of our favourites so far:
A big bed, hot tub, champagne, breakfast in bed and a fluffy robe.
Jennie Jackson
Pulling back the curtains, the fabulous Windsor Castle dominates the skyline. The swans by the river wait for their breakfast as we wander down to take a boat ride. Passing the beautiful gardens where the water laps the grassy edges, we see Eton College. Windsor Race Course seduces the wish to tempt Lady Luck and great restaurants wait to be explored. Windsor would be my choice for a memorable stay.
Chris Reid @chrismse1
Welcomed on check-in with a glass of champagne, we sign in. Bags taken, we then get to our room with candles lit and a jacuzzi followed by chocolate and champagne. We go out for dinner and our room is turned down for the night. The next morning, we go for breakfast and it is cooked by a chef in front of us. Most of all we have had great customer service and hospitality.
Nicola Redfern
Big, soft four poster bed with big fluffy duvet and lots of pillows, clean cosy room, powerful shower, nature views from the windows, tasty food with quality local produce, relaxing atmosphere ahhhh.
Danika Lloyd
A free-standing roll-top bath, sweet smelling bubbles and large white fluffy bath towels, bathrobes and slippers.
Alix Johnson
Crisp cotton cool sheets are a must, as is a sumptuously deep mattress. A champagne bucket within easy reach and maybe some chocolate dipped strawberries. Classical music playing in the background. A claw foot bath with luxury bath oils and potions. Huge fluffy towels. A Jo Malone candle burning. Ohh – and my husband!
Christine Dodd @flowerpowerlife
A four poster bed, a bottle of champagne on ice, rose petals on the bed. Basically the greatest customer service experience on earth.
Craig Brown
I would love to walk into a room that makes me go “wow!” with a special little welcome gift to make me feel like a princess. I would take a leisurely afternoon walk to explore then relax by pampering myself with a bath and nice smellies. Followed by some amazing room service!
Kelly Mcaleese @macwilki
A room with a view, a bed that makes me feel like I’m floating and toiletries that leave me smelling of roses! I think it’s really important to feel welcomed by the hosts at a B&B, and a hearty breakfast in the morning would finish it off nicely.
Heather Price
A sea view, a huge antique roll top bath, thick fluffy towels and designer toiletries, crisp cotton sheets on a king size bed and complimentary chocolates.
Lynne O’Connor @Spanglisher
It’s just your typical 3 star, bog standard B&B. A bit tired. 60s wallpaper… and it’s on the moon.
Sarah Woolley @Sarah_Woolley
A friendly welcome and a log fire in the winter
Big bed and soft duvet and lashings of hot water for a bath in peace and quiet.
Deborah Wheeler
Being waited on hand and foot, my every need. Feed me grapes and a foot massage
Isabelle Smith @dancehall_izzy
Nice comfy bed and great breakfast are a must.
A log fire for maybe a evening meal of steak yum yum.
Amy Jane Beckett
My dream B&B… an open fire, a 12 tog duvet, and a night with my husband in sumptuous surroundings that feel like home.
Amy Ripley
As a busy mum, who’s always on the run,
A stay in Ventnor Bay would be my ideal get-away.
Some ‘time for me’ and TLC,
At The Windsor-Carlton I’d get good hospitality.
A free voucher for a local attraction could provide the ideal distraction!
A home-cooked breakfast to help my day begin,
I’d finish with a relaxing tipple in The Spyglass Inn.
With wonderful views over the Bay,
I can see why the Victorians loved Ventnor in their heyday.
Gill Rigluth
Me and my husband have been married for a year now and we never got to have a honeymoon as we have two very small children. This would be the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate that night plus getting away from the kids for one night!!!
Natasha Stanley @tashstanley28
After 43 years together, some good, some bad it would be lovely to share quiet times, beautiful views and relax in comfort.
Hilary @MDHilary
To have a romantic WE away with the wife, leaving the kiddies at the grandparents, and getting to know each other all over again.
Mark Colombus @corpopix
My dream B&B would have a sea view and huge window seat. Simples!
Sharon Mead
Somewhere warm and welcoming.
Rebecca Inman @beckyinman
Comfy bed with lots of pillows, mood lighting, ample drinks in bedroom. Hot cup of cocoa and a fireplace! Lastly lots of vegetarian selections for breakfast.
Kiran Channa
Somewhere I can arrive, plonk my bags, and feel at home. Only not my home, the home I’d have given half the chance. Where every room is flooded with light and every surface is clutter free. And the linen is clean and crisply ironed. And the bath fills fast with hot water and decadent bath oils swirl… Room service is prompt with the bubbly and snacks. I throw open the windows, admire the view, and breathe in that sea air! My shoulders drop, my heart beats slower. There are no kids. And a lie-in is compulsory.
Catherine Goddard @CatJGoddard
A perfect cosy crisp bed – and breakfast in bed.
Sophie Hassan @xainabhassan
A large jacuzzi bath, chilled bottle of champagne, soft fluffy towels and robes, dimly lit lights, room service. Heaven.
Maureen Findley @mofind
Friendly owners, fluffy towels, hearty breakfasts, sea views, invigorating walks, fish and chips and a good night’s sleep… nothing more, nothing less. Bliss.
Sarah Lad
It would be a seaside stay, so I can hear seagulls and go for long coastal walks – would be great to wake up to a view and indulge in a lavish breakfast before walking it off!
Fiona King
That friendly welcome, not too in your face but friendly enough to make you feel at home. Entering the room to see a beautifully decorated luxurious place, which you do not wish to leave, for a perfect time away
Fernando
After a delicious meal, where nobody threw any food on the floor or did a poo, we would drift back to a calm, uncluttered room with luxurious deep carpet, with no Lego bricks hiding in it. An uninterrupted nightcap and a cup of tea, without anyone waking up as soon as the kettle boiled, would round off the night. A FULL AND UNBROKEN night’s sleep. No demands for milk, no nightmares, no little bodies squeezing into the bed in the early hours. A lovely breakfast, with no one claiming my plate is a ‘sharing plate’. And then home, because we miss them really.
Nicola Barker
I would love to walk into a bedroom and find beautiful crisp white sheets on the bed, flowers and champagne in the room and a nice roaring log fire burning in the fireplace for that bit of romance. Cuddling up on a deep pile rug, in front of the fire, after of course that very hot, deep bubble bath in a double sized tub!
Matthew James Short @fishermanrus
Warm cosy bed, with blankets and fluffy pillows, waking up to the smell of a cooked breakfast wafting through the room. Views overlooking beautiful countryside so you can enjoy every moment from waking to returning to bed.
Laura Reay
I love homebaked bread & homemade jams for breakfast, and vegetables picked from their own garden. Plus ‘marshmallow beds’ as I call them, where you literally get enveloped in the softness of the duvets & pillows. Also fresh milk instead of those UHT cartons & a warm welcome.
