Getting here
People think that the Isle of Wight is miiiiiiles away. But actually you can get to London in under three hours, including the ferry. We’ve done it in two and a half, but the car hasn’t been the same since. Use the interactive map above to help plan your route from the ferry terminal. If in doubt, just head South.
By car ferry
Choose a ferry route that’s convenient for you:
Portsmouth – Fishbourne with WightLink
Southampton – East Cowes with Red Funnel
Lymington – Yarmouth with WightLink
By red jet (no cars, just people)
Southampton – West Cowes with Red Funnel
By Catamaran (people only)
Portsmouth – Ryde with WightLink
By Hovercraft (people only)
Southsea to Ryde with Hovertravel
By train
You can get the train (to West Cowes or Ryde). If you end up in Ryde, then you can get a little train to Shanklin, which is three miles or so from here. You’ll need a taxi or nice friend to escort you into Ventnor.
By bus
You can get two Island Buses (run by Southern Vectis) to and from Ventnor:
The Route 3 bus takes you from Newport to Ventnor, via Godshill, and then from Ventnor onto Ryde, via Shanklin and Sandown (and back).
The Route 6 bus takes you from Newport to Ventnor, via Gatcombe, Chale, Blackgang Chine, Niton, Whitwell and St Lawrence (and back).
Happy holidays!
