Chiropractic is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal manipulation or adjustment (World Federation of Chiropractic, 1999).

Mary King uses the McTimoney method which is a whole body, low force treatment. The adjustments are very fast and accurate yet gentle. Treatment is generally painless unless the affected area is swollen and inflamed.

Musculoskeletal problems can be caused by accidents, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture, illness or just everyday wear and tear. These issues can also cause pressure on the body’s nervous system leading to conditions such as sciatica. Depending on the problem, chiropractic care may also involve soft tissue treatment to muscles, tendons and ligaments along with manipulation or mobilisation of parts of the spine and joints.
