Location: Bottom of the Cascades, Esplanade, Ventnor
This iconic paddling pool has been delighting the little ‘uns since the 1960s (actually that was a guess, people round here can’t say for sure). Rising out of the water is a model of the Isle of Wight that the kids can play on. Modern day parents love it. This is partly because of its proximity to the Haven (fresh fish and chips for tea!). But it’s also because you can have a drinkie in Besty and Spinky’s at a table outside, as you watch your toddler hop from Cowes to Ryde to Ventnor. Ventnor’s the best place to paddle, of course – so much warmer than anywhere else.
The pool is on the Esplanade, at the bottom of the Cascade (that’s the beautiful sloping garden with the waterfall that you’ll see in all the postcards). It’s handily situated right by the eco loos.
