Welcome to our beautiful sunshine resort – a great holiday destination for foodies, culture lovers, discerning shoppers and beach dwellers. Ventnor is on the southerly tip of the Isle of Wight and enjoys the benefits of the famous microclimate – making it one of the sunniest, happiest spots in the UK. With the stunning Downland behind the town, and the waves lapping onto the beach in front, Ventnor is a small town that punches above its weight.
Ventnor combines the best of all worlds; a quaint seaside setting coupled with a modern outlook. Picturesque Mediterranean-style terraces and stunning views can be enjoyed from all over the town, and the sea provides an ever-changing but always stunning backdrop to the daily lives of residents and visitors.
There’s a safe harbour, Ventnor Haven, where fishing boats drop their daily catch. This is also the perfect spot to enjoy the local delicacy, Crab ’n’ Chips. Along the shoreline, cafes, bars and pubs have terraces that invite you to enjoy a drink and snack and soak up the beautiful views. The clear waters are excellent for swimming and brave surfers can be seen here throughout the year.
Ventnor has an impressive range of specialist, independent shops as well as some of the Island’s
best pubs, cafés and restaurants, where you can enjoy everything from a freshly cooked breakfast to an afternoon tea as well as local and international style lunches and dinners, many prepared with delicious local Island produce.
At the southern tip of the island, Ventnor enjoys some of the UK’s sunniest summers and mildest winters. Palm trees and sub-tropical plants flourish in this climate and you can admire many rare species at the lovely Botanic Garden, as well as enjoying a glass of Botanic Ale, made with locally grown hops.
Ventnor is a dramatic place to walk along the rugged coastline and steep cliffs. Go west towards Steephill Cove with its sheltered bay and golden sands, then on to romantic St Lawrence with its Parish church that displays fine examples of stained glass windows by renowned Pre-Raphaelite artists. Or take a level stroll east to historic Bonchurch which former resident Charles Dickens described as ‘the prettiest place I ever saw in my life’.
Ventnor has been famed for its therapeutic ‘air’ since Victorian times when it was a fashionable spa resort. Many of the grander buildings in the area date from this era, and have been built from the honey-coloured local stone. Spa treatments can still be enjoyed in Ventnor, or you can exercise in the open air at our groovy green gym in award-winning Ventnor Park – totally free & enjoying a sea view during your workout!
