Bonchurch

This cutest little village, on a dramatic stretch of coast, is the former home of Charles Dickens.

Bonchurch is also where the famous Bonchurch pottery is made (there’s a workshop on the sea front). You can see their distinctive ceramic name plates outside many of the houses in the area.

Don’t miss a visit to Old Church (so old it’s mentioned in the Doomsday Book). Occasionally, they host candlelit services in their tiny chapel.

The coast here is beautiful and secluded, but you’ll need to pack your own picnic – there’s very little here for the hungry tourist to snack on. If you want ice-creams, head back along the coast to Ventnor – it’s a lovely walk.
